The Tangle-Free Alternative

REELEX tangle-free technology is a patented method of winding a filamentary product (such as cord, wire, cable or tubing) on a specialized coiling machine.

This specialized winding process results in a woven coil that unravels from the inside-out through the wall of the coil by means of a guide tube. This coiling method cancels any twist in the product by using a traverse to guide the product back and forth across the coil while winding. By weaving the product across the width of the coil, the winding process imparts a twist in one direction, and then back in the other direction. These twists cancel each other out as the coil is dispensed and the result is low-tension, smooth payout without any twists, kinks, snags or tangles.

The REELEX coil is uniquely wound using multiple crossovers and a low tension pattern that creates a radial hole passing through the center of the coil wall. A plastic tube inserted into the hole permits the inside end of the coil to pass through the tube to the outside for easy tangle-free payout.

The REELEX coil is essentially a figure-eight coil that is wrapped around a mandrel. REELEX Coiling Machines  make a series of these coils each slightly offset from the previous coil to prevent the crossover points from lying directly on top of each other. The machine also leaves a hole in the coil wall to allow the product to exit the coil. The figure-eight geometry cancels out any back twist that is found on normal coils.

The self sustaining REELEX coil is inserted into an outer container with a corresponding hole to which the tube is fastened. The wire or cable is easily dispensed by pulling on the exposed end without removing the coil from the container.

In early 1998, Windings introduced the REELEX II Coil. While similar in concept to the traditional REELEX coil, REELEX II features a much larger payout hole which allows for the improved payout of many products.

Advantages for End-Users

  • Tangle-free and Twist-free Payout - No loose coils, no curling.

  • Easy-pull Payout - Low tension. No coil rotation or movement of container.

  • Payout Stops when Pull Stops.

  • Save Labor - Fast, simple setups save up to 50% on installation labor costs

  • Clean, Neat Inventory - Partially used packages do not unravel.

  • Rugged Packaging - Holds up under field abuse. Optional Polyethylene container.

  • Easily Portable - Can be paid out by walking the package.

  • No Extra Equipment - No payoff stand, tension devices, or accumulators required.

  • Environmentally Friendly - Box and tubes are 100% recyclable. No reels or spools to trash.

Advantages for Cable Manufacturers

Benefits for manufacturers of wire and cable or other cord-like products.

  • "Green" Package - Box and tubes are 100% recyclable. Minimal plastic is used and corrugated material is biodegradable

  • Lowest Cost Package - Coil is self-supporting and only a simple outer container is required.

  • No Reel or Spool Inventory - Saves valuable space and cost.

  • Long Shelf Life - Coil is inert and under low tension.

  • Packages Fit Many Sizes and Lengths - Variable winding patterns permit a range of lengths or cable diameters to fit the same container size.

  • Several Packaging Types - Standard corrugated, polyethylene molded, or retail-friendly consumer pacakge.

  • Rugged Packaging - Fewer returns.

  • Stackable Packaging - Rectangular boxes or stretch wrapped coils stack easily.

  • Product Identification - Coil stays in container until consumed.

  • Easy to Demonstrate Advantages.
